There is a LOT of controversy over gluten lately so I thought I’d clear a couple things up and give you a brief overview on what all the commotion is about.
Ok so Gluten is a wheat protein found not only in bread, pasta, muffins and cereals, but it sneaks into other foods as a binding agent as well. There’s been gluten in our foods for years but it’s been causing us more trouble recently due to the level of genetic modification it undergoes to bring us things like cake-pops in the shape of dinosaurs that flash lights and sing songs but are ALSO low fat, and low calorie. Basically, the more we mess with the natural composition of a food, the more trouble it gives our digestive systems. We are meant to eat whole, natural and simple foods. That’s the way our stomach and intestines do their best work, so when you blend a bunch of chemicals and then add binding agents (like Gluten) it begins to tax our digestion and we start experiencing digestive issues. Since everyone is different, some people have no problem digesting natural gluten products and often use it as a protein supplement in vegetarian diets, some people experience discomfort after eating gluten and some people double over in pain and basically hate life after eating it. That’s called celiacs or having an allergy to gluten. Most of us are just sensitive on some level but again, like everything it’s totally individual so if you have the following symptoms after eating a bowl of your favorite pasta you might wanna avoid it for a little while and see if your stomach troubles disappear.
Check these symptoms if you experience them after eating gluten containing meals: bloating, belching, gas, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, dizziness, migraines, foggy thinking, sharp abdominal pain or distention. So do your own allergy test and skip the gluten for a few days to see if they get better!
