As the days grow shorter and the darkness of the season sets in, our gaze turns inward and more reflective. This is the natural flow and clarion call of the season that we become accustomed to year after year. For some this can be an incredible time of introspection, creativity, and personal evolution. For others this can present a lot of challenges and obstacles with self and the inner workings of the mind as well as external conflicts with family and loved ones. Wherever you may fall on that spectrum of feelings, the ultimate goal is to maintain balance in your physical body as well as your emotional and mental bodies.
Emotional and mental health and living in alignment with the rhythms of nature and the seasons are integral components at the core of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. If emotions are out of balance or disrupted then perhaps it is noticeable in a physical manifestation and vice versa. Acupuncture’s intention is to strengthen all levels of the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual inside you to make you feel better. So not only can it give you a good boost of immunity to protect yourself in the elements and against all the cold and flu viruses traveling around, but it can also mitigate all of the stress and feels that a holiday season can stir up. Acupuncture is a light on the horizon that glows and shines with the opportunity to lift people’s spirits. Perhaps for certain individuals just plain and simple relief from these various symptoms of the season is enough, yet others might experience a beckoning for a period of diving deeper into contemplation. Another brilliant and intriguing aspect of acupuncture (one of the millions) is that we have various special magical toolkits to reach into to offer support for these exact needs and desires.
One branch of this medicine that is an outstanding example of potential and possibility in this realm is Esoteric Acupuncture. This particular style is near and dear to my heart as I have been completely obsessed with it and have been slowly infusing it more into my practice and my considerations of helping people. The results of these treatments and the feedback I get are astounding! Let me attempt to explain this system in a basic description of what it is and how it works.
Esoteric Acupuncture is a gentle system of acupuncture developed from the Ageless Wisdom Teachings by Dr. Mikio Sankey. It focuses on a utilization of a synthesis of ideas from the Classical Theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture; Chinese Five Element Theory; Hindu Chakra Systems; Hindu Nadi Systems; Sacred Geometry; tetrahedral geometry; the Qabbalistic Tree of Life; field, quantum, and superstring physics; and Naturopathy. Treatments through this system focus on using acupuncture and alleviating any imbalances within our energy fields. The use of herbs, vitamins, other supplements, and dietary guidelines are not the emphasis here though they are things that are encouraged for the purpose of tonifying and strengthening the physical body as a vehicle for optimizing the emotional and energetic work being done. A primary focus is to balance Qi (aka basic life force energy) and more specifically in the Qi flow of the various body systems in relationship to the Chakra systems and overall energetic fields of the person. In balancing these energetics we are attempting to harmonize the systems of the Heart (Fire, Love, Joy, Connection, etc.) with the Kidneys (Water, Fear, Willpower, etc.). There is an intention and goal to dispel fear with love and to begin to really work and move from the heart. There is an emphasis on wellness as a viable, curative and preventative option versus health being about just sickness and disease. It is a journey towards finding your center that you can cultivate and nourish. As obstacles and challenges present themselves to throw you off, these sessions will assist you in resuming to that residence of strength and resolve. This process allows you to dig deeper to find out who you truly are and to find out what your particular puzzle piece is in this existence. It is a process towards expanding your consciousness, which is the real journey of healing the heart. All of this happens on your terms as it relies on the innate and intuitive wisdom of the body and spirit to move at its own pace.
